Did you ever look at your parents and wish they were healthier? You’re not the only one. We
did a survey(调查) of kids and 46% said they worry about their parents’ health. And 69% of the
kids would like their parents to make changes to be healthier. Maybe your mom and dad would be
surprised to learn that you care about them.
Here are some tips on talking to your parents about their health habits:
Create a list.
Try to remember what got you to think about this topic. Is there an unhealthy thing you’d like
to see them stop doing, or do less often? Is there a healthy habit — like exercising or eating fruits
and vegetables — that you’d like to see them do more often? Get your list together. And don’t
forget to add relaxing more and getting more sleep — two great, healthy ideas for parents and
kids!
Practice how to say it.
Changing can be difficult. And it’s not always easy to hear that someone you love thinks you
need to do it. So you’ll want to bring up this topic in just the right way. If your parents wanted you
to make a change, how would you like them to ask? A gentle, caring way often works best. You
might tell your mom or dad: I want you to be healthy and strong so that we can do a lot of fun
things together. Do you think we could eat more healthy foods, exercise more, slow down and
relax for a couple hours a week?
Find the right time to bring it up.
Pick a moment when everyone’s relaxed and there’s time to talk.
Make a decision together.
Once you bring up the subject, remember that both you and your parents should agree on
which steps to take next. It helps to pick a single goal. It can be overwhelming(不知所措的) if
you try to make too many changes all at once. If your goal is too general, you don’t have
specific(明确的) steps in mind.
Cheer them on!
Encourage your parents as the family starts making changes. Tell them you’re proud of them.
An extra hug or a home-made card of encouragement can give them what they need to keep going
down the healthy road. What a great way to show how much you care!

The Internet has changed our life a lot. Can old people keep up with the times? Let’s enjoy
the following stories.
Xing Yuxi, 12, Chongqing
The Internet has influenced (影响) the old people in my family a lot. My grandfather is a
“nerd” now. He asked me to teach him how to play the popular video game King of Glory (《王者
荣耀》). I’m
surprised that he shows a great interest in this! He talks to family members on WeChat every day.
He tries to learn other new things as well. So, as we can see, the Internet can help elderly people.
Sun Zhenyao, 13, Anhui
My grandmother has been using a mobile phone designed for old people for a long time. She
thinks that the Internet is useful. She can see mobile navigation (导航) to find her way. She wants
to get a smartphone so she can learn more. Still, she doesn’t trust cashless payment (无现金支付)
apps like Alipay. While I enjoy shopping online and paying for things with Alipay, my
grandmother still prefers to use cash and buys everything in the supermarket.
Wen Jiayi, 13, Sichuan
Smartphones have made a big difference in my grandma’s life. In the past, newspapers and
TV programmes were her only way to get information. But now, she can listen to the news
through all kinds of apps on her mobile phone. Sometimes, she even plays mobile games for fun.
Thanks to the Internet, my grandma now has a colourful life.

I am Indian(印度人) and I come from New Delhi, the capital of India. Having a guest(客人)
come to our home is a very big thing for us.
When guests come to visit, they get a lot of respect(尊重) and care from everyone in the
family. The first thing we do is to call every family member to meet the person when the guest is
in the home. Then someone younger in the family has to wash the feet and hands of the guests.
Then we put food at the table. Nobody can start eating food until the guest takes a bit of his share.
After he finishes eating, his plate will be taken away and he’ll be given one bowl and a mug(大杯)
of water at the table to wash his hands.
For Germans, guests are just like a blessing(祝福) in their house and they treat them very
respectfully. In Germany, if people go to someone else’s house, they do not enter the house until
the house keeper comes to the door and invites them to come in. Guests of any age will not be
different in how they are treated. No matter who come, young or old, a guest is our guest.
Ashley Jurinka said that in American houses having a guest is “kind of big thing”. She said
they respect every guest who visits them. “The first thing we do when a guest is inside the house is
to introduce ourselves, and then we ask them if they need anything,” she said. She also said that
the age of the guest matters. They treat young guests differently from older guests.

Do students often play sports? We can usually get positive (肯定的) answers. But why
should students play sports? Some think that students play sports in order to have good health.
Others think it’s a good way to help students have fun. But is that enough? No! If students play
sports, they can get more than healthy bodies. Why? Here are three more reasons.
The good news for the students who play sports is that it can be helpful in school. Some
people think that doing exercise will take up(占据)students’ study time. But a recent study has
shown that students who play sports get better scores in school than those who don’t. Exercise
gets students to learn, remember things better and have better focus (注意力).
Students who play sports often work together well and can solve (解决) some problems.
When they are working together with others to win games and reach goals, they’re learning how
to be very successful in practice. And these skills will be useful to them for study or their work in
the future.
Playing sports can also improve confidence. Students who play sports feel better about
themselves. When they know they can improve and reach their goals by practicing, it builds their
confidence. And sports can also help them communicate with others actively and make new
friends.
Now, how about going out to play sports with your friends every day?
